| __________________________________ Sports & Outdoor Activities Golfers will find several excellent golf courses including the Newport Golf Club, the Country Club of New Hampshire, and Okemo Ski & Golf Resort. Additionally, there are many other fine courses located in the Upper Connecticut River Valley. Many lakes, rivers, ski areas and state parks are within a 10-60 minute drive of Arbor Brook. Mount Sunapee Resort is a short 10 minute drive providing skiing and snowboarding. Other nearby ski areas include Okemo Resort, Ragged Mountain, Pat's Peak and Mt. Ascutney. In addition, you will find cross-country skiing and snow shoeing are all around us. Just a few minutes from our door, you will find a section of the popular New Hampshire Rails-to-Trails path system, winding through the woods, along the banks of the Sugar River. This pathway provides a scenic tour enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. In addition, there are a number of options for hikers of different abilities such as the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway, Mt. Sunapee, Mt. Monadnock, or Mt. Kearsarge. In addition to Mt. Sunapee State Park & Beach, there are others such as Lake Massasequa in Bradford, Kezar Lake in North Sutton and Pillsbury State Park in Goshen offering you a place to enjoy the beach, have a picnic, paddle a canoe or kayak For Kayakers who prefer to be out on a large river, the Connecticut River is well known for its beauty and abundant wildlife and is just a short drive from Arbor Brook. North Star Canoe Rentals offers a variety of self-guided canoe, kayak and raft trips of varying lengths including "fast water" and "Class I" sections of white water for experienced boaters as well as flat water conditions. Newport is home to the Richards Free Library listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Library Arts Center Gallery and Studio display changing exhibits of fine art, crafts and history, with a new theme each month and the historic Newport Opera House offers a diverse schedule of entertainment throughout the year. The neighboring town of Claremont has the Claremont Opera House which offers a variety of programs and a 30 minute drive will take you into Lebanon where the Lebanon Opera House is located. Beyond Lebanon is Hanover, where you may want to visit Dartmouth's Hopkins Center or the Hood Museum of Art. The Simon Pearce Factory & Showroom has two locations within a 40 minute drive -- one in Queeche, VT and the other in nearby Windsor, VT. Simon Pearce is famous for its glass blowing techniques and fine pottery. A bounty of antique shops, country stores and studios featuring the work of local artists and crafters can be found throughout the Dartmouth Sunapee and Upper Connecticut River Valley regions of New Hampshire and Vermont. __________________________________ Historic Sites Our area has a variety of historic sites worthy of a visit. Such attractions include The Fells-John Hay Wildlife Refuge in Newbury, NH where President Teddy Roosevelt vacationed at the turn of the 20th century. The Augustus Saint Gaudens National Historic Site is in nearby Cornish, NH. While in Cornish don't miss the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge, built in 1866 at a cost of $9,000. It is the longest wooden bridge in the United States and the longest two span covered bridge in the world. And for those interested in American History, Fort No. 4 in Charlestown, NH is a Living History Museum where you can explore the replica of an actual fort occupied during the French & Indian War. In addition, other sites of interest include the Mt.
